Empty Studio

It's probably been apparent that Kenzi Cox Paintings hasn't exactly been active. Lets be real, I've been absent. Back in November, two things happened. The first is that I decided to create and donate a painting to the amazing cause of Blessings in a Backpack. The second, is that I discovered I was pregnant.

November 2016 was my highest month of sales to date, and I couldn't be prouder. I was amped up and ready to go! I was so excited to see my diligence pay off. You know what I wasn't prepared for? Working full time in an office and being pregnant. Why doesn't anyone tell you that pregnancy is exhausting? I knew about the puking, discomfort, and random pimples/hair growth. What no one told me about is that I would be asleep for at least 13 hours a day! My life became a blur of force feeding myself, struggling to stay awake until my lunch break (ahem nap time), trying to eat ANYTHING that sounded remotely appetizing, coming home and promptly falling asleep on the couch for the evening. Wash, rinse, repeat. Eating dinner was a laughable challenge. Create the painting that's going to make or break my career? What a joke. I now realize how funny it is that I thought this painting I promised to donate was my make or break moment. It's so easy for me to become super driven and hyper competitive, especially with myself. I'd turned this painting into the physical manifestation of my hopes and fears about being a successful and "real" artist. It took every ounce of remaining energy to do, and in the end, I am super pleased with how it turned out. Not to mention, it helped out a great cause!

I quickly realized that my little man and my rapidly changing body needed to be my focus. So, I set my brushes and instagram aside. I know it was the right choice, but its been hard to look in my studio and see it sitting still. My life has been in a constant flux. Not only is my body changing on a daily basis, but my husband and I are moving across the country. Where to? We don't yet know. As a wife of a PhD Candidate, I get the joy of adventuring wherever the job takes us. We are relocating at the end of this month to Louisville, KY until the end of the summer. I'm so excited to get to bring our little man into the world at home!

Which brings me to my point! (a sigh of relief from the readers) Kenzi Cox Paintings is temporarily closing up shop. The next few months are going to be filled of boxes, moving trucks, sleepless nights, and dirty diapers. I will be back and rearing to go whenever my studio - and new little family - finds a new home, but in the meantime, its time to put my painting on hold. What does that mean for you? A GIGANTIC SALE.
